Common in all the area of the Middle East and Turkey. They live near water ponds and beaches, feed on insects, worms, small crabs and shrimps. Scientific name: Vanellus spinosus, Family Charadriidae. They live on the ground and make their nest before the spring on the ground, laying between 2-4 eggs with a greenish and brown spotted shell. During the nesting time the small birds protect their nest, eggs or chicks and attack any animal or person coming close.
