ISRAEL JOURNAL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
EDITORIAL
The Israel Journal of Veterinary Medicine (IJVM) was first issued in 1942 in the Hebrew language under the name of "Refuah Veterinarit" or "Veterinary Medicine". The journal still bears the same name in its Hebrew version. The first issues were written in Hebrew with abstracts in English. Since 1950 the Isaeli Veterinary Association has published it bilingually and as a quarterly peer review. Its first Editor, Dr. J. Neriah was one of the first eight Israeli veterinarians, pioneers and founders of modern veterinary medicine in Palestine. They were the ones to establish the Israeli Veterinary Association, which in those times, besides safeguarding the welfare of its members, established all the necessary institutions to promote veterinary medicine itself before the State was established.. This included the publication of the IJVM. After the State of Israel was established in 1948, many of the Israel Veterinary Association activities were transferred to the State Veterinary authorities. Yet, up until now the IJVM remains the responsibility of the Association. In the last six years I served the journal as its editor, attempting to maintain its traditional goals, centered mainly on veterinary topics which concern the region. The 300,000 visitors at the site and the growing influx of submitted original articles indicate that the Journal is alive and kicking. In order to maintain IJVM at the high scientific standard, "new blood" has to be transfused into the journal veins. Therefore, after six years of editorial work it is time to step down and give my co-editor, Dr T. Waner, the opportunity to carry the journal to new horizons. I would like to thank all members of the Editorial Board for their assistance and support. Thanks to all devoted reviewers for your excellent work, and not least I would like to thank all the authors, who entrusted their manuscripts in my hands – without you, there could not have been a journal. I wish you all for an enlightening and intriguing journey in the future issues.
